The World’s Best Backup Singers

Tom’s three back-up singers are well known to us fans and, like his musicians, are peerless professionals. We’ve been able to gather a bit of information about each of them but, if you can add more, please let us know. We appreciate your help.

Sharon Hendrix, who stands in the middle of the back-up singers, began her career as “Muffy” Hendrix. She’s sung background vocals for Bob Dylan, Natalie Cole, Stevie Wonder, Olivia Newton John, Barry Manilow (recording a duet with him on Ain’t Nothin’ Like the Real Thing) and Harry Chapin.

Sharon won raves duetting with Tom in his live performances of The Letter (in photo at left) from the Mr. Jones CD. Sharon has also worked on a variety of television shows, commercial spots, Academy Award-winning movie soundtracks and Grammy-winning albums. Along with Darelle Holden, Sharon appeared with Tom in Mars Attacks! playing, of course, one of his back-up singers.

Darelle Holden, who stands on the left, comes from a long line of accomplished musicians. Her grandfather is known as the patriarch of jazz in Seattle. While living in Los Angeles, Darelle worked with many greats in the industry, aside from Tom, including Earth Wind and Fire and Vonda Shepard.

She now calls Las Vegas home and, although she is touring extensively, she still finds time to write and record her own music.Darelle is the Las Vegas Director of the nation’s original and longest-running showcase solely for female artists, Chick Singer Night. The format is a simple one. All singers are welcome; all styles of music, all levels of experience, all walks of life. Each singer shows up the afternoon of the show, charts in hand, and runs her songs with the CSN Band. (You can find CSN events across the country. Check their website.)

The guy up there with Sharon and Darelle (adding, as Mr. Jones says, “soul to the show” ) is Tony Reynolds, a graduate of the University of North Texas, known the world over for its schools of music. He sang around Dallas for seven years before moving to LA for nine years where he was a singer and actor.

Tony does an amazing job of revving up an already-psyched crowd after Tom’s opening video.
