Warning: This Is Not For Everyone! “Living Next Door To Tom Jones”
Sunday, December 18th, 2011If one is a native of New York City and happens to know anyone of a certain age who went to Brooklyn’s Erasmus Hall High School – the first public high school in the USA — then one probably has met at least one person who went to Erasmus and who claims to have been there at the same time as the school’s most famous alumna, Barbra Streisand. Now, it doesn’t matter if the person is older or younger then Streisand. As long as the approximate age is close, the claim is often made — even when totally untrue. (I know, PNR, you never claimed to go when Barbara did! I didn’t mean you!)
Ceri Haggett (right) is a Welsh singer/songwriter with, I think, a good — if sometimes a tad tasteless — sense of humor. And he’s written a song. The premise is:
“YOU’VE EVER SPOKEN TO SOMEONE FROM PONTIPRIDD, I GUARANTEE THAT WITHIN 30 SECS THEY’LL MENTION A CERTAIN PERSON….THEY CANNOT HELP IT….THEY ALLLLLLL RECKON THEY KNOW HIM!…….IMPOSSIBLE I SAY!”
In the song he mentions how Tom’s CD (Praise and Blame) was supposed to be number 1 but it was number 2…and so on.
Anyway, it’s a bit gross and infantile in spots and you stand warned. If you don’t think you can deal with it, don’t watch it. But it is (according to the moderator’s informal survey) funny. There’ll be special holiday stuff up soon.
Meanwhile, click here to see Living Next door To Tom Jones.
Haggett was a friend of the late Stuart Cable and he posted a video in Cable’s memory. Check that out, too.

The song itself with it’s words etc isn’t one bit offfensive to me. But from my part of the world it isn’t even funny if the writer/singer intended it to be. It seems like he is a bit sad actually wasting his time doing it.To me he comes across as someone who has very little talent and I’m glad he isn’t famous because he is hard to listen to lol. What a sorry little man doing that song lol.

Didn’t you read the first paragraph of the post? The point of this being posted is that everyone today seems to want to be close to celebrity and the guy is saying that is true of people who live where Tom grew up. Didn’t like the photos? You’re certainly entitled. Didn’t like what he said about Praise and Blame? I thought it was outstanding but am well aware that lots of fans felt the same way. And they’re entitled. As for the talent of the singer, all I can say is that it does show a degree of talent. It’s a folky style that uses music to comment on various issues and topics. I might not like what he says, but he showed creativity saying it and he has the right. You were duly warned that “This is not for everyone.”

Actually, with the exception of one or two photos that I could have done without (LOL!!), I think it was actually funny! And the premise sounds like it’s probably true – as our moderator points out, most of Brooklyn’s Erasmus Hall alum claim to have known Barbra Streisand, and I’ve no doubt that many people in Pontypridd make the same claim about Tom. From what I’ve heard about Tom’s sense of humor, I’m tempted to think he might even find this funny in spots (I wouldn’t blame him for taking offense at one or two comments or photos, though…LOL!!).

If I knew Tom Jones I’d be shouting it from the rooftops, but in a flattering way. Why doesn’t he get the accolades he deserves? He’s got a God-given talent. He’s handsome and a gentlemen. I didn’t think it was funny at all. The man is a great talent. I’d listen to him sing in a field of flowers with no music. Why doesn’t the world get that???

Darla: It doesn’t say he’s not a good singer, even though the singer didn’t like his last album. He was making fun of the people who claim a relationship with Tom.

Ceri you know you’re just a boy from nowhere but what’s new pussycat the green green grass of home will always keep a welcome in the White Lion, just be grateful you’re not from Pontipridd (sic), it’s not unusual for people to take the kiss fella.
