Video: A Look Back To A Fine Weekend In June, 1992

Monday, November 7, 18:55 pm GMT: TomJonesOfficial (site) is down and you know that means it’s being updated. Perhaps they’ll be posting news of the new album and/or The Voice. Stay tuned.

Screen shot from BBC West video clip of Tom at Glastonbury in 1992.

This weekend will be largely devoted to putting together the 2012 TJI Fan Calendar. I have a “meeting” (via phone) Monday with the printer’s prepress genius who will help me complete the template and, when that is accomplished, the project will go to the printer (by Wednesday at the latest) and orders will be closed by Thursday or Friday . Please keep your fingers crossed that all goes well and, if you want to, feel free to send photos (at least 300 dpi) of yourself with Tom for use on the back cover. The order form is at the top right of each page on TJI.com. And many thanks to those who ordered already.

After a melee in 1990 caused the Glastonbury Festival to be cancelled in 1991, the event returned June 25-27 1992, expanded and successful. Although wikipedia doesn’t even mention Tom Jones in their 1992 entry, he was apparently a big hit, although there are reports of disappointed patrons who came very early to get next to the stage in hopes of seeing U2 or Prince.

In 2008, TJI.com posted a terrific review of Tom’s appearancie by a festival-goer who didn’t expect to enjoy him.

Difficult to believe this was almost 20 years ago, isn’t it? And, you’ll see that Tom says all he needs is an invitation to show up. Anyone want to invite him?

Calendar Ordering Deadline Near; The Question of the Month; Tom Jones, Wine & Music; A Social Note

This Splash News picture from last month wouldn't make the calendar because it's a professional photo and it's just an awful picture.

Final Days For Calendar Orders! I’ll have to close calendar orders by early next week. There will be photos of Tom from over the years. He’ll be onstage, offstage and, even, in on the beach in Florida earlier this year. That Kiss photo that couldn’t be included last year and that I was forbidden to put solo on a poster will be in the calendar this year. To order, click the form on the right. Please email me with any questions.

It’d be great if you’d answer the Question of the Month in the post below. Ordinarily, as regular TJI site visitors surely know, I don’t post anything else with the question of the month but, this month, made an exception because of the news about Tom being back in the studio. Please, however, answer the question!

The Telegraph had a story yesterday about a study about the relationship between music and wine. It made me very happy because my favorites are merlot and shiraz, varietals. It says in part:

Music makes wine taste better
It has long been known that you should pair your wine with your food.

TJI November Question of the Month: What Attraction?; Big News! & An Article On US-UK Relations

Help for an excellent cause from Real World Studios whose caption for this photo is: "The lovely Tom Jones with a delicious cupcake kindly donated by Sam's Cakes Corsham for our Breast Cancer Cake Week last week. !!!"

First, the big news: TJI has two solid sources (plus the photo at right) that say Sir Tom is back in Peter Gabriel’s studio in Box, Wiltshire, once again recording with the amazing Ethan Johns! Clearly, this is true but you know it’s not official until it’s on Tom’s site or, as it’s called “Official Tom Jones,” thus making whatever’s posted there “official.”

Second, it is a fact that, due to the nature of their history, the US and Great Britain have always had a special relationship. But, in this article from the October 30 New York Times Sunday Magazine, the knowledgeable author suggests that the relationship between the US and Britain might have to be rethought. Interesting, not too long and well worth reading. And, if you do, feel free to comment on it below.

It was noted here on October 24, that a scheme is in the making to create a “Tom Jones Experience” in his birthplace of Pontypridd.

The plan was discussed on Aamericymru.net the terrific Portland, Oregan-based website for Welsh ex-pats and those of Welsh heritage in America and you can go there to see some of the comments.

So the TJI.com Question of the Month for November is:

If a Tom Jones Experience is put together in Pontypridd, what attraction(s) would you include?

Finally! if you missed the CD The Mail newspaper had as a readers’ bonus, you can download it here. But, you may need a plug-in, so do it with full awareness of all the possibilities of what could go wrong in mind. That said, it’s good listening and you may easily find it on eBay.

Thanks, Kat!
