Sir Tom In the News, What's New, Pussycat?

Here’s our news page. This is the place for articles and, we pledge, we’ll try not to post the stupid stuff we all run across once in awhile.

WOW!!! Great News On The US Charts! Opening Night Set List

Tom has hit the Billboard US charts in a huge way with Praise and Blame! The album is in five (!) separate charts! Simply amazing!

Just check it out!

He debuted at #79 Billboard 200!

He’s #4 on the European album list which is “the week’s most popular albums complied from the official sales charts of 19 European countries, ranked on a weighted-point system based on IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) World Rankings and country size.

Digital download sales are included in certain European charts provided.” This is separate from the UK chart.

And in tallying the albums that made the biggest jumps on the chart, Sir Tom is at #4, as he leapt over 121 other albums for that #79 debut.

The “Tastemaker” chart is new and important.

The only thing we can say is congratulations to Sir Tom, to his producer, management and all of the highly gifted musicians who were part of this record. (And, that Island exec, who bears the misnomer “Sharpe” — I will say again, exhibited behavior that belies his name — surely isn’t returning any of his money to anyone.)

Onward and upward!/strong>

OK, the opening night set list:
Sugar Daddy, Give A Little Love, Thunderball, In Style and Rhythm, If He Should Ever Leave You, Delilah, Mama Told Me Not To Come, Hard To Handle, Too Many Lovers, Never, He’ll Have To Go, Green Green Grass of Home, Save The Last Dance For Me, I’ll Never Fall In Love Again, What’s New Pussycat?, She’s A Lady, You Can Leave Your Hat On, If I Only Knew, Sex Bomb, It’s Not Unusual and, for the encore, Kiss and Take Me Back To the Party.

It was a joyous show….with two new (oddly dressed) backup singers. As much as I’d have liked some of the new songs included, it was mostly great hearing so many favorites (How he can still do If I Only Knew is, I believe, a pure miracle.) Sir Tom Jones is a wonder!

After watching the show Thursday night, I think the showing on the chart is so deserved. What an entertainer. Cannot wait to see some of the new work in person. And, if he does his gospel and spiritual songs, your observation about the singers being “oddly dressed” will slip from “odd” over the line into “inappropriate.”

All this sounds good news, and yes Ellen you are right in saying it is wonder how Tom is still able to sing If I Only knew and Thunderball.I would like to know what the back up singers were wearing?! If anyone could describe.

  3. lynda Says:

yes, please tell what the backups were singing. God has truly gifted this man with a wonderful voice. I can listen aaallll day and never get tired. My poor husband has to put up with this. Wish I were in Vegas tonight.

First, Gill, I did not say it’s a “wonder how Tom is still able to sing If I Only Knew and Thunderball.” I said, “Sir Tom Jones is a wonder!” Big difference. I am not surprised at all that he can sing those songs as I believe he’s taken care of his voice very well over the years so he can do exactly what he’s doing.

The singers? They were dressed in black. One was in very brief hot pants and the other in skin-tight pants/leggings. I don’t know what the question about what they were “singing” means. I’ll just assume it’s a typo.

Fantastic news! Thanks Ellen for letting us know. Still coming down off my high from opening night, and wishing I could have stayed in LV longer.

This is great news! Let’s keep the momentum going on the album charts. This is the first time Tom has scored this high on Billboards Top 200 Albums chart since the “Say You’ll Stay Until Tomorrow” album in 1977. I believe it peaked at #76. Just awesome!

Fabulous news and I really hope it keeps climbing. Am really enjoying my CD – have ordered 2 more. Love all of them – one of my favorites is Didn’t it Rain – would love to hear him do that in concert.

What a glorious night in Vegas seeing Mr. Jones perform all his usual songs including 4 more from his recently released album “Praise and Blame.” Making it all the more wonderful was that it was my birthday. He sang from the heart and it felt as though he sang to only me!!!! No matter how many times I see him in concert I am awe inspired by his talent and his love for all his fans. Long live “The Voice” and the happiness that comes with it!! We love you so much Mr. Jones!!!!
