TJI Question Of The Month For May: Just One Track
Saturday, May 1st, 2010There’s been lots of rumor and talk among lots of people about the new Tom Jones CD due — allegedly — this month. Tom has said it’s a “gospel-type” set in the style of a Clapton CD. TJI has also heard it is a “collection of songs that have been meaningful to Tom over the years.” Whatever it is, it is eagerly awaited.
Now, let’s say you had some input into the songs included on the CD. The May Question of the Month is:
What one song — any song originally sung by Tom or anyone else — would you include on this CD is you had a say?
Remember, just one title, please.

Back in the mid to late 90′s there was a techno-dance style band out there called La Bouche. They had a ballad on an album called “Do You Still Need Me”. At first listen all those years ago, I immediately thought of Tom.

I’d have to say “With These Hands”.

More Than Memories

Tom has to record “Git Me Some” and “The Reason” for posterity. I’ve seen his performance of these songs live and they are very moving…each in their own way.

If I can dream

This is both a consternating and ridiculous question. With his voice, there is just too much that he could kill. Almost any song with strong vocals would be in his reach. I’d love to hear him do “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”.
May 3rd, 2010 at 5:53 pm
Gospel, how about a little Amazing Grace?

I’m also looking forward very much to that new CD, can’t wait to hold it in my hands
.
Why not include some Frank Sinatra, for example “It was a very good year” ?

In 1994 and 1995 Tom sang I Can’t Stand For Falling Down it is truly captivating to hear him sing this song I would love to hear him record this song.
May 4th, 2010 at 2:04 pm
OK. loved this song when it was in the set list
” I Like The Way You Move ” but I love Tom the best when he sings anything with soul and anything that is The Blues

I still stick with “Till”. Glad a couple of other fans agree. Listen closely and you might just change your mind and agree with us. Of course my memory of watching Tom sing the song helps a lot!
