More Shows Cancelled; TJI.com Question Of the Month For April: No Foolin’, How Should Tom Spend The Day?
Thursday, April 1st, 2010Tom has canceled his shows in Singapore and South Korea. We’ll have more tomorrow and a bit more on the lawsuit discussed in the post below. His site says:“Due to doctor’s orders, it is with deep regret that we have been forced to cancel tonight’s performance in Singapore at Resorts World Sentosa and Saturdays show scheduled for Seoul, KOREA at the Olympic Fencing Stadium. Sir Tom has been resting his voice all week in Singapore, with regular checkups with local specialists. Unfortunately, the doctors are nevertheless unable to guarantee that Sir Tom would be able to perform the full show tonight at 100 per cent vocal strength. In addition, they have warned that by performing, Sir Tom could risk serious permanent damage to his vocals…We are deeply sorry for disappointing and inconveniencing the fans. We hope to find a time to come back in the near future and reschedule the shows. Full refunds will be available from the point of purchase – please contact the relevant ticketing outlets for further details.”
Please answer the Question of the Month!
In just over two months from now, Tom will celebrate his 70th birthday.
I was recently asked by a reporter how I think he should celebrate and, after several days, I answered with what I believe is a rational, thoughtful and — perhaps — realistic plan for June 7.
Now that my answer’s been submitted, I’ll put the question to you:
How do you think Sir Tom Jones should celebrate this most special day?
A story several weeks ago on UK radio that he’d be doing a concert at Royal Albert Hall has thus far been unfounded. I will note that the likelihood is that he’ll be in the UK.

I think he has to celebrate his 70 years with a week of colossal gigs! Seven days! One concert a day, one day for 10 years spent on this planet! Go Tom!!!

Wouldn’t it be fantastic if he organised a big garden party with all his best friends and all his most loyal fans ((the TJI.com members for instance) and we would all celebrate the life of this so wonderful man, singing all his favourite songs together.

At 70 years of age, and a World Tour behind him, maybe home to LA for some much needed R&R, and his wife to pamper him and cook him some good Welsh food. AHHHHHH–just what he needs! I bet his wife would love that, too!

Much as I’d love (selfishly!) to see Tom celebrate his 70th with a birthday show right here in NYC, I think I have to agree with Sandra. Time for Tom to give himself some much-needed and well-deserved R&R. Perhaps a quiet birthday celebration at home with family would be just what Tom needs to re-charge his batteries (and then, hopefully, he’ll return to the New York area…haven’t seen Tom in ages and would love to see him again one day soon!).

Go on a giant pub crawl TOM in Wales with friends and sing like you used to do … just for fun

This whole “local specialists” thing is making me very uncomfortable. He should be in the U.S. and fly in a team of the very best top Doctors. No more fooling around with hot and sour soup as a cure, his voice is too precious to us!

To party just the way he wants to!
April 2nd, 2010 at 7:15 pm
Sir Tom should celebrate his 70th however he wishes. Hopefully it will be very relaxing.

Ellen when do we get to hear your thoughts?
April 4th, 2010 at 6:42 pm
I think he will spend it with his family, maybe all his family, cousins, etc. Probably nothing public as specualted, but I could be wrong. Whatever, he wants to do, I hope he enjoys it the way he wishes.
April 4th, 2010 at 6:43 pm
Sorry, “speculated”. I’m getting older and need to wear my glasses.

KathyS you made me smile. I lost my TJ virginity on my 50th birthday in Vegas. It was the best birthday of my life and I’m sure TJ fans could show him a good time for his. LOL But I think Bebe’s idea is the best and I know Tom would enjoy it.
April 7th, 2010 at 4:57 pm
Yes Susanne 50 and Tom is a wonderful combo, virginity or not!You are right Bebe has the right idea.
