Rumor or Reality?, What's New, Pussycat?
Rumors about Sir Tom pass from ear to ear to chat room to discussion list to forum. Of course, we hear them, too, and are frequently asked by site visitors about the truth of a given story they see or hear. In an effort to separate fact from fiction, we’ll occasionally post a rumor — a possibly credible thing we hear and try to get at the real story. The only rule about the rumors we’ll post is that they must be about Tom’s professional life. Nothing personal. We leave that stuff to others. So, if you hear something and would like us to help check it out, send us an email. Of course no rumor is considered fact until it’s confirmed on Tom’s official site but, meanwhile, we’ll try to fill you in.

On January 24, TJI reported that any dates for Tom at MGM in May are very tentative. The venue had him potentially there May 13 through the 26. We heard at the time that it might not happen. His official site confirmed that it won’t — on those days. Other sources say he will be here sometime in May. We don’t know about that, but TJI is fairly certain that August will happen.
Now, for our Rumor or Reality Department: There are many possible reasons for this scheduling question. In no particular order, TJI has been told by people in- and outside of the US — Again! It’s not official until it’s on Tom’s official site! — that there is a new CD to be released in May/springtime. (thus far without a contribution from The Killers). And, remember, Tom will celebrate his 70th birthday early in June. Thus it is quite likely that he’ll (1) be promoting new product in May (whether it helps overall sales or not, experience has shown us new product always gets promoted first and most in Europe and that leaves us honestly and simply grateful when new product even gets released here) and (2) perhaps there’ll be a big birthday bash as there was for his 65th. So, stay tuned and, hopefully we’ll soon get some news about something.

Ellen, advance warnings of possible concert dates are appreciated whether or not the shows actually happen. It helps me, personally, to start thinking about travel plans. And we have experienced from time to time that for whatever reason, Tom’s upcoming concerts are not always posted far in advance on tj.com. Or maybe I’m not looking in the right place.

Nancy: You can look at the “tour dates” page on Tom’s official site where they are now keeping up-to-date. Or you can check TJI’s page, Where’s Tom & When’s He There, where confirmed dates are listed, along with dates for which tickets are on sale but that are not yet posted on the official site.

My boss is pressing me to choose my vacation schedule for the year..I keep telling her I will not know until Tom Jones is next in Vegas. I have been a huge fan of Tom Jones for nearly 40 of my almost 45 years on this earth. When I was 6 I used to dress up in a suit and sing into a fake mic..my family started calling me “Mr. Jones.” It is such a joy to see him still going strong.. I would like to say a great big THANK YOU to the real Mr. Jones..
