October Question of the Month: New Stuff On TJI.com?
Thursday, October 1st, 2009It’s coming up to the TJI.com anniversary and — since this is a fan site — I’d really like to hear your requests for things you’d like to see.
Bearing in mind that there are trademark/copyright laws that must be obeyed, the October Question of the Month is:
What features would you like to see added to TJI.com?
On October 11 a new feature will be unveiled and other things on the site will be fixed. So watch for that and, please, send your suggestions.
Tomorrow we’ll have Kim’s review and photos from Denmark and a review from Eva in Sweden.
Note on the June raffle: Because I was stressed at the time and had an issue with PayPal about raffle money (you cannot sell raffles via PayPal), I did the donation to the charity without depositing any of the money I was sent by mail. It was on a tote sheet I kept, but I never deposited it. Someone — thanks, Jean! — has contacted me to say her check was never cashed. Turns out I’d moved the envelopes when I rearranged my old desk to make room for a new one at that same time. I’ll deposit all the checks Tuesday, October 6, unless you tell me not to. Meanwhile, the amount you sent was included in the amount sent to the charity. I feel like an idiot! Sorry!

I’d like to see more behind the sceen stuff.All the little mishaps’getting to and from places,before interviews,how Tom gets ready for a show,and how things are put together for him.

I agree with Gill. Without getting into Tom’s private life but a little more than only news about his professional life woul be great.
Moreover, what woul be nice, I think, would be to get to know each others better. Each of us could send a photo and you could create (sorry for the additional work !) a place ine the site which could be called for instance “TJ’s community”

The thing I’d like more than other is: Sir Tom Jones writing in this forum. It would be cool reading his stuff. I could ask him some advices about singing, performing and thinks like that. Think about it people!!! Will it ever happen?

I’d like to see a ‘question-answer’ section with Tom! Everyone could ask a question and he would answer weekly or monthly personally to you! Just to keep contact in a special way…

This site gives so much more daily the the official site does all year.I like the idea of collectibles. How about a place for us to show off some of them. I also like the idea of pictures of all of us.How about coming up with a TJI keychain? Something that we could have with us daily. But what i think would be a really cool idea…wouldn’t it be great if somehow they could print rolls of Tom Jones wrapping paper? I know i would be a hoot for Christmas and birthdays!! Also, how about a TJI t-shirt? I know i would wear it. Just my thoughts…

I agree with Christiano. It would be really nice to see something written by Tom himself to the fans, at least, once in a while, not even every month. He doesn’t write on his “official” site, so I don’t know if he would here, but it would be great. Also, Gill’s idea of the behind the scenes stuff would be good and yes, not to much of Tom’s personal life, but tidbits perhaps.

I would love to have a page about his Voice, i mean facts, Octave Range, Highest Notes, Lowest… And ofc a “starter page” which tells what songs are must to know..

Hi, All: First, thanks for your responses. Please keep them coming. To address what you’ve written so far:
Questions About Tom: There is a page on this site called “TJ Q&A where you can send me your questions using the “contact” link on the sidebar and I’ll do my best to answer them. It was a lot more active when the site first launched and it seems to have gotten lost in the shuffle. To get it going, all you have to do is ask a question. If I cannot answer it, I try to find an answer for you. It is the TJI version of “Ask the Experts.”
It is worth noting that when TJI first started we were able to submit questions in writing when Tom was in Las Vegas. That lasted a couple of months and ended. I am not going to argue about it. I guess there were reasons. Also, keep in mind, Tom does not, he has often said, use a computer, someone else loads songs on his iPod and he doesn’t text.
And, is it necessary to post that Tom went to a relative’s funeral in Wales yesterday? Is he not entitled to his privacy? And how important is it that Tom Jones fans become aware that his cousin passed away? In my view, it’s not important to fans.
Going Behind the Scenes: I post all the news I have and can get, along with stories from others who have talked with Tom or seen him elsewhere than on stage and wish to share their stories. But, truthfully, everyone who moderates any site for anyone or about anyone does best to define the content from the outset.
When this site started there were issues with a couple of other places — a yahoo group and the old forum on Tom’s old site. Things were getting personal and ugly and it was unpleasant to read. Now, I am not adverse to good stories (if they are true) or to people getting to know one another via a website. I just never wanted this to turn into a place where everyone’s business is posted. And, as I’ve observed, that too often happens and content degeneration too often ensues.
But, I do have an idea about this and I want to refine it. I’ll post it October 10.
Rarities & Collectibles: My friend Tom (no, not that Tom!) was playing with you. A Rarities and Collectibles section will be launched October 11 with things he’s sending. So, watch for it and scan or photograph your stuff and send it via the contact link at right.
There may be TJI t-shirts early next year. First, though, the calendar.
Tom’s Voice: On his official forum there is occasionally (oddly heated) debate about the voice. He’s a baritone and I gather, as he’s aged, his range has changed — more depth, less breadth. Lacking the expertise myself, and not knowing anyone who has it, I’d be hesitant to post technical information about this. If you have any suggestions, email me. As for discography, there is a link to one very nice one, but you’ve given me an idea for the November Question of the Month!
Official Site? Thanks, but I’m not even going there. (I would, however, love to see Tom’s official site be a bit less UK-centric and more universal. All of his fans deserve equal treatment.)
I’ll continue to address suggestions as they come in, so please keep ‘em coming!
Meanwhile, I will urge each of you to take some time and wander through the site. Just go to the sidebar, click on a ink and have a look around. Some things — like the tourbooks section and the page on Tom’s musical roots and history — need to be fixed and they will be in the next 9 days or so. But, check it out and let me know what you think.

This may sound ridiculous….but I think videos of fans (of TJI) doing karaoke of Tom’s songs would be a riot. They would have to submit them with a decent photo, because as we all know….karaoke can be unkind. Just something to think about!!!

Hi,
Since Tom has been more forthcoming about his private life, I would love to see some pictures of his family.He does talk about them. His fans are curious and it’s not a bad thing, I think.

I do agree with you Darla.
Tom is part of our lives and we would feel closer to him if we knew a little bit more of him off stage. Personaly I’m not the type of girl who spend her time reading gossips about showbiz stars and who is certainly not fond of negative details such as the death of Tom’s cousins or anything like this. I’m sure the majority of us would like to see where he lives or as Darla said, see pictures of his family.

Ellen, everything you do is great and much appreciated. Would love to see a quick note from Tom once in a while, but I know that’s not going to happen since he doesn’t have a computer and TJI isn’t the “official” site. Just keep adding to the video library. I check everyday to see if there is a new video to watch. Thanks again!

I also appreciate all you do for your website .It keeps up with what’s new and the video clips of recent concerts are great since we can’t be there in person.Electrofying!!! Keep up the good work! You’re awesome!!!Even though you’re not the official site you are apparently able to meet the needs of Toms’ fans, info is readily available and is the pulse of his professional life. Kudos to you girl.

Hi, All: Thanks for all your kind words…..I forgot that magazine cover, MHarding. I actually have a copy. As for a keychain or anything else with TITJ or use of his image in a professional photo — well, without permission from the copyright owners, it cannot be done. My two cohorts and I are tossing around some ideas but, first, the calendar will come. That announcement and call for photos will be in about 10 days. And, please be assured, since I was ripped to shreds a few weeks ago about the “awful” (well, that’s not the word she really used) 2009 calendar, I solemnly pledge to try to do better for 2010.

I am very happy to hear that there will be a calendar for 2010. I have been checking to see. It is not that I want one, it is that I NEED one. I absolutely HAVE to HAVE one!!!!LOL I need to be put on whatever list I need to be on to be assured I get one as soon as they come out. It can even be still warm from the printing!! I have gotten one for the past two years and it really makes my day at work more pleasant. When things get tough, I just look to my left and smile and remember why I am there……to pay for all of my trips to Vegas!! HAHA, then I can make it through the day!! If you use any of the fan with Tom pictures, I would be more than happy to share my picture taken with Tom in December of 2007, Tinkerbelle shirt and all. I may have looked like I just rolled out of bed, but Tom sure looked great!!!!!
