A Confirmation From Tom’s Website & A Look Back To the 1960s
Friday, July 24th, 2009
According to his website, Tom’s concerts between July 24 and 31 (along with previously announced Casino Rama and Beacon dates) are postponed. They says:
“Singer Tom Jones regretfully announces the postponement of the following engagements:
July 24 Mashantucket, CT Foxwoods;July 25 Boston, MA BoA Pavillion; July 26 Hyannis, MA Cape Cod Tent; July 27 Bethel, NY Bethel Woods; July 29 Vienna, VA Wolf Trap; July 30 Asheville, NC Biltmore Festival; July 31 Atlanta, GA Chastain Park
Sir Tom contracted viral bronchitis whilst on tour. He continued to perform with the infection, which has affected [sic] the function of his voice. His specialist doctors have now ordered complete vocal rest for a prescribed period of time. There are no underlying health problems and Sir Tom is looking forward to a full recovery very soon. He is deeply sorry for any inconvenience caused and very much regrets disappointing his fans. An announcement will be made soon regarding the rescheduling of the dates.”
As we recall, Tom first contracted the bronchitis in May. Note, too, that the Biltmore Festival, for example, is a one-week series, Bethel Woods is seasonal and the Wolf Trap season runs only until the beginning of September. This would tend to make “rescheduling” an issue for this year.
But, if rest is what Tom needs, then I’d imagine fans are grateful he’s getting rest.
Meanwhile, some diversion: Tom back in the day (right) — the 1960s — with The Squires singing I Can’t Stop Loving You.

Loved the video and I love the fact that Tom is taking care of himself. I know he must be at least as disappointed as his fans. Lucky you who saw him at Westbury and in New Hampshire! And the rest of us, who will see a healthy Sir Tom in the near future!

I am hopeful a good 2 weeks of not using his voice will be the best medicine,in 1997 he had a problem when acid reflux did some damage to his vocal cords and he took a few weeks off, even canceling Vegas on his Doctors orders of not even whispering for 3 weeks,he relayed the story on Jay Leno when he was allowed to return to performing I remember him saying his doctor even told him no cigars or drinking of alcohol.I have a feeling he visited the infamous Dr.Hermann (excuse the spelling it may not be right)the surgeon who is his throat specialist in Los Angeles and the surgeon who did his throat surgery in 1988 and who has been his doctor every since as soon as he hit the ground in Los Angeles. All i can add is may God bless him and heal him totally and may God keep his arms around him always.

I received an email from the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC, saying that the concert was cancelled and would not be rescheduled. Refunds will be given. They also wished Tom a speedy recovery in their announcement as of course, we all do.

I dunno, but i have to say that always for a singer is the best to rest when needed…. You cant really decide when you are ill, and when Tom is ill its just baad (mostly ppl get pissed off), yes his voice and status is immortal but he is here for us and for a limited time, lets enjoy it, ok?

Wishing Tom a speedy recovery and not to worry about anthing else, except, his health. I would rather see him miss a whole year without touring or singing anywhere else then never being able to sing, ever. It’s time for him to relax and take it easy. We’ll still be here waiting for Tom to either melt our hearts away with his beautiful ballads or shake, rattle and roll our souls. Pray that his doctors will get him back on his feet, soon. Again, all the very best to Tom. Feel better.
