Sir Tom In the News, What's New, Pussycat?

Here’s our news page. This is the place for articles and, we pledge, we’ll try not to post the stupid stuff we all run across once in awhile.

More On Tom, Bruce & Neil At Glastonbury: “Dinosaur Rock”

This is kind of amusing — father vs. son. And, one might say that these particular dinosaurs are still roaming the earth because of the Darwinian principle of survival of the fittest. You go, old guys! But, one might also wonder if this is revenge for naming the kid Otis.

Glastonbury’s golden oldies offend Otis Ferry

Already nicknamed Glastonbury’s year of “dinosaur rock” with such wrinklies as Neil Young, 63, Bruce Springsteen, 59, and Tom Jones, 68, topping the bill next month, the annual festival has now been lambasted by Otis Ferry – the son of Bryan – for not giving younger performers a hearing.

“These older guys are hogging the main stage for the finale and blocking it to the newer, younger acts,” says Otis, 26, the well known hunting enthusiast and festival-goer. “When you get some old duffer ending the weekend you feel like going home. Honestly, if I had to listen to Tom Jones for an hour and a half on the main stage I’d be asking for my money back.”

As for Bryan Ferry, 63, he has said that he would never perform at Glastonbury with his band Roxy Music because he felt it was not a “sophisticated enough venue”. In a somewhat unfilial aside, Ferry junior adds: “Dad’s just cross because he’s never been asked.”

For all that, all 137,500 tickets for this year’s festival sold out in April, although, when they went on sale it wasn’t clear precisely who would be performing.

Hey Otis, –you stay home . I’ll take your ticket and be happy about it! Who’s going w/ me?

chileanpusycat: Bryan Ferry is a well-known singer and Otis is his son. I thought the article made that clear. The kid is entitled to his opinion.

  6. mharding Says:

Bryan is of course a well-known singer but his son is a well-known public nuisance. A survey of his most notable achievements in the public eye bring his views on the talented and hard working brutally into focus:

Thanks, mharding. Young Otis just got a bit more interesting.

Otis says, ““Dad’s just cross because he’s never been asked.” It may be disloyal and unfilial, but it is probably the truth.

  9. Dave Says:

Well little Otis, well known hunting enthusiast and festival-goer, stand back and listen to the VOICE, power and vocal range, that is Sir Tom Jones. As far as this venue not being sophisticated enough for Mr Ferry, it is difficult to imagine his tiny voice in this huge venue.

Dave you are right. Who cares what young Otis thinks. He undoubtedly hasn’t heard TJ full blast.
