Tom On Red Dragon Radio This Morning; Here’s The Interview
Thursday, May 28th, 2009Be sure to check out the brief video clip from Mardan Palace in the post below
Tom’s in London on his way home from Turkey and this morning Kam and Sally (left) on Wales’ Red Dragon Radio in South Wales interviewed him.
They talk a bit about Shaheen and, for those who don’t know, here’s the scoop: On Britain’s Got Talent 12 year-old Shaheen Jafargholi — whose voice has yet to change — sang And I’m Telling You from Dreamgirls and judge Amanda Holden placed him among the pantheon of Welsh singers “above Tom Jones.”
Tom was asked about that in the interview and his response — the very sensible opinion that these kids are pushed into “the deep end” early on and they need “more experience” — made headlines in Wales, as if Tom were trashing the kid. (Quelle surprise!)

Nice interview thx!
That comment about Sir Tom was pretty lame, she should know facts little better before pointing out such a trash its just “little” different between real artistry and boy from talent show.. IMO!

Oqi: Who knows? The kid has promise and, perhaps, in 40 or 50 years he’ll have proved his greatness. What gets me is that Tom makes a perfectly legitimate comment about experience and the nasty UK press jumps on it like it’s an important criticism of the kid’s performance.

I liked Shaheen Jafarholi’s performance and he got talent and a wonderful voice – yet to change maybe?? but let’s enjoy the present – nobody can forcast the future…What I want to say is enjoy incredible talent wherever you find it, don’t question it or compare it to others

To better prove the greatness of the 12 year old, why not compare him to 9 year old Michael Jackson? People don’t understand that virtually any child, if coached and trained from a young age can learn the technical skills to perform. Just look at kids who practice daily with their skateboards. They can do amazing things. What makes a true superstar has much more to do with originality, than technique. This boy has learned some technique, but has not yet developed his own style. He is of course is still very young and someday might.

Thanks for posting this. It was great hearing Tom’s voice as usual and he always makes me laugh. He said that sometime we could catch him on holiday to sing and it would be hard to get him off the stage. Can we all chip in and have him for a private concert. Yum! Yum!

Thanks Ellen. I get such a charge out of listening to him speek, with his deep sexy voice and Welsh accent; be still my heart. Laura count me in on that private concert.

Love that voice! I’ll help with that concert. Ellen, thanks for the posting.
