What Do You Think? Tom’s European Tour Poster
Saturday, May 9th, 2009Coming tomorrow! Two special posts: First, a Mother’s Day salute. Then, awhile later, a commemoration of a very special day in the life and career of Tom Jones.

Photographer Carston Windhorst was hired by LiveNation UK to take these promo photos of Tom in London on February 21.
Contrary to what he writes, they were likely not taken in Tom’s home, as he doesn’t own one in London. At any rate, he writes, “At the end of February I had the honor to shoot the one and only Tom Jones at his home in London. Tom – who had decided to go grey – was in need of new press shots and I was fortunate enough to be hired for the job.
“When I found out the photos would be used for his press campaign I was over the moon. One of my shots from the session has been used for the official tour poster.”
[Moderator's Note: The poster says Tom will play "plus special guests." What does that mean? Ya think it means his band and singers? And, no, I am not serious.]
The poster is the one that so appalled Norman in his comment following a post below.
What do you think?

I think Norman is right. Tom looks awful.I think it’s because they somehow elongated his head. It’s odd. He’s much better looking than that!

In the UK special guests means an Opening Act. As most of these arenas are 10,000 plus seaters then the show goes on longer. Usually from 2 1/2 – 3 hours. Tom used to do the shows here with an interval that used to spread over the evening, now as he seems to do his show without a break there is an opening act.

If Live Nation thinks this is good photography, then Sir Tom needs a new promoter. These photos in no way reflect his rugged good looks, and I cannot believe that anyone in Tom’s organization, including himself, approves. As for special guests, maybe Duffy, or Paul Potts. We’ll just have to wait and see.

OMG – HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, TJ MANAGMENT WAKE UP! I’m sorry but these photos suck. The red poster looks amateurous and just plain hideous. Sir Tom deserves better treatment than this.
May 10th, 2009 at 10:23 am
How can they make such a good looking man look like that?
May 10th, 2009 at 12:13 pm
Well Ellen it was in one of the sunday papers today and to use one of Tom’s favorites words it is “Bloody awful” sorry .This is not what I would call good publicity. It stinks .
May 10th, 2009 at 12:27 pm
He looks awfull!,so skinny.
Tear it up and make another one….
The one who chose this picture must be locked up and never be allowed to
select another picture of Tom.

I agree wholeheartedly about the picture. His face looks so thin and dark and the color red makes his age show up more.

This is so easy to answer about the poster C. R. A. P . Sorry about the language but its true, why not use the cover from the cd 24 hrs or one of my photos from ponty park , this poster makes tom look like he is going on 89 not 69.

Just wanted to let you all know I’ve sent an email to Tom Jones Enterprises in Los Angeles, to let them know what I thought, and it wasn’t pretty. I’m not a photographer and could have done 100x better. In fact I think most of us could have done better. Maybe everyone should send his office an email.

I don’t think it’s the photographer’s fault or that the photo is necessarily bad. It looks as if the designer of the poster had a concept and resized the photo to fit that. Unfortunately, he or she didn’t keep the proportions constrained, so when it was made longer, it came out disproportionately narrower. It’s just plain bad graphic design.
They needed photos of Tom as he looks today (although they should have grabbed Chas’ Ponty photos to use from 2005 to 2009). Once they got these, they should have been treated with respect.
May 10th, 2009 at 3:07 pm
NO, NO A THOUSAND TIMES NO!!!!!! SURELY TOM’S MANAGEMENT DID NOT GIVE THEIR APPROVAL OF THIS!!
May 10th, 2009 at 3:23 pm
Hell No. What were they thinking. Its awful. Don’t like it.
May 10th, 2009 at 3:44 pm
I agree with all the other comments….The poster photo is horrible it doesn’t even look like handsome Tom.
May 10th, 2009 at 4:18 pm
Well I’m glad to know I’m not the only one to look at the picture and thing “What the H–!!” That photo is absolutely horrible. What have they done to our handsome Tom?
May 10th, 2009 at 8:37 pm
Could they be any worse? It’s all been said above..and I agree!
May 10th, 2009 at 11:08 pm
SORRY THE PICTURE OF TOM JONES IS NOT VERY GOOD
May 10th, 2009 at 11:34 pm
What is this? I think Mr Windhorst can do better than that! Surely everyone here in this forum can!
May 11th, 2009 at 2:26 am
Yeah, someone at this graphic designers needs new glass LOL
I have an idea (of course not a serious one) why don’t we make some really nice posters and plaster them over these all over the UK?
May 11th, 2009 at 2:27 am
Oh! Sorry for the typo, that should read “new glasses” of course!
May 11th, 2009 at 10:04 am
That is the worst promotional poster I have ever seen. It will definately hurt ticket sales. Hopefully his management will stop the publication of it before its too late.
May 11th, 2009 at 11:20 am
No a particulalty good photo, but it certainly hasn’t affected ticket sales, they have been extremely good.
May 11th, 2009 at 11:22 am
sorry meant to say Not a Particularly good Photo
May 11th, 2009 at 2:01 pm
Hi Ellen
Does Toms management get to see our comments or sugestions!
May 11th, 2009 at 2:23 pm
Just when we got a nice lobby photo of him after so many years, they put this out. What were they thinking?
May 11th, 2009 at 2:31 pm
The worst, an insult to Tom, very unflattering, such an injustice!!!!!!!!!!!!
May 11th, 2009 at 4:37 pm
That picture doesn’t look like Tom Jones. What are they promoting? It looks like an imposter, not our sexy looking Tom that we know and love.
May 12th, 2009 at 12:40 pm
Mmmmmmmmm……….a thousand times NO!!!
May 12th, 2009 at 10:35 pm
How could post such a lousy picture of TJ.
He’s my SEX BOMB!!!
May 13th, 2009 at 9:41 am
This is not the same sexy and handsome Silver Fox I just saw at two Florida concerts. Sir Tom knows how to pose for a good photo and these people must have worked very hard to make this picture so bad.
May 14th, 2009 at 7:18 pm
Ellen–so did they change that poster pix–or what? It was very clear that his fans opposed it! Will be interesting to see if it is changed.
May 15th, 2009 at 10:37 am
Not a good idea to use this photo at all,I think they should change it now.. Did Tom OR Mark his son have ANY say in using that photo?? I could take a better one with my moby fone …
