Were You In Sarasota Tuesday Night? A UK Tab “Reporter” Was & Anything A Fan Says Is More Interesting

311First, please take a few moments to read the comments on the post below about Mary. And, if you haven’t read the post, you owe it to yourself as a Tom Jones fan to do that. The outpouring of affection for her is overwhelming — as both evidenced by the comments and by emails and calls I got Tuesday. And, please be aware that the comments are from people of all ages. Her story moved so many and I know she’s smiling down on us. May her memory be for blessing.

But, as Mary was always anxious to hear about the latest Tom Jones show and see photos, so are all his fans. I know it’s difficult to find new ways to say “great,” “wonderful,” “amazing,” etc. But you don’t have to say it with new words. Any words that work to convey your experience will do and all the fans who visit this site are anxious to share that experience.

These photos are from the Daily Mail. With them is a story about the concert from an unnamed “reporter” that isn’t about the show. If they wanted to see “knickers,” they should have been at the Hard Rock and some other venues. Note that in the photo, Tom isn’t even looking at the thrown object. And the photos are clearly fan stuff shot with a poor camera or cell phone and sold to this agency. Probably whey there’s no byline on the story. Or, in fact, no real story. But they do retell the old “why I let my hair stay natural” story from Las Vegas in January. Slow news day in the UK? Whatever. To paraphrase Charles Dickens, in this case, the Daily Mail “is an ass.”

Aged 68 and still a Sex Bomb: Fans throw knickers onstage as Tom Jones performs in Florida

When Sir Tom Jones stopped dyeing his hair this year, it looked as if the 68-year-old was finally allowing himself to grow old gracefully.

But it seems some habits never die. At a concert yesterday, the Welsh crooner found himself with a pair of knickers at his feet, just like old times.

Dressed in his customary black, Sir Tom didn’t seem perturbed by the blue undergarment lying on the stage in Sarasota, Florida.

Harking back: In the Sixties, it was common for women to throw their undergarments at the singer

As a young singer in the Sixties, Tom was known for his overt sexuality before it became common among pop stars.

His fame began to rise in the US, and female fans would regularly swoon and scream at his gigs, and throw their knickers onto the stage.

Yesterday’s concert saw the It’s Not Unusual star perform his greatest hits and tracks from his latest album, 24 Hours.

In January, Sir Tom announced that he would be touring a series of small clubs in the US, a marked change from the packed arenas he is used to.

His announcement was noticeable for another reason too. It coincided with the singer’s decision to stop dyeing his grey hair black, having already ditched the tight trousers, medallions and facelifts for which he was becoming known.

Speaking about the move, he said: ‘I’ve moved onto the next stage of my life.

‘I can laugh at myself, but I suddenly thought: “It’s not the tight trousers they are making fun of now, it’s the dyed hair.”

‘When my son Mark became my manager, he immediately got me out of the tight trousers and revamped my image. I look back at those bloody trousers and think: ‘Jesus! No wonder.’ ‘

The same reality check has happened with the hair dye, but the decision was the result of a happy coincidence rather than design.

‘Over Christmas, I always take a month off and let my hair go and don’t even shave. Normally it comes out like salt and pepper which I hated. But this year it grew out a silver colour, so I kept it because it’s more distinguished.’

He says he had a touch of nerves performing his first show with his real hair colour. ‘But this time the fans were shouting: ‘Tom, you look great – we love your hair.’ So this is me now and it’s a lot easier.’

I got to see Tom right before the show and he signed a piece of art for me by Mark Arminski ( vintage pop art of Tom ). Tom was dressed in black and very tan. The show, the voice, were all amazing! Met some new Tom friends Zoey and Vince and had a great time!

GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ what a cheesy article!. It talks like he has one foot in the grave. Nothing could be further from the truth. The MAN and the VOICE are still ROCKIN!

I’ve just got home from work and read the article in the Daily Mail. Firstly the story is by Liz Thomas described as a ‘Showbusiness Reporter’ and not an ‘unnamed reported’. Secondly the article is quite positive about Tom and although it does go over old ground it keeps him in the public eye in the UK and not in a negative way.

I’ve just re – read what is printed above and it bears little resembalance to what is actually printed in the paper. There are whole pieces cut out!!

Hi everyone! I was at the Sarasota show and had a fabulous evening!!!! I met up with some long time Sir Tom fans and brought two of my girl friends with me that had never been to a show! They were extremely impressed by “the voice”!!! We were dancing in our seats…although I was just itching to stand up, but contained myself! (just barely lol!) The band as always was fantastic!
