No Surprise Here: Another UK Tab Has A Go At Sir Tom’s Gray Hair
Saturday, January 31st, 2009Tom’s hair color (“gray” in the US; “grey” in the UK) is making news as he reaches the UK for some more promo work on 24 Hours. Of course, it’s not an original story — that would be too much like real journalism. No, it’s a rehash of yesterday’s AP story in the US with a huge helping of nasty thrown in. He’s toured internationally in the last six years and, in truth, the Hollywood Theatre at the MGM is smaller — but not cooler — than several of the places he’ll play (Terminal 5, HOBs, etc.) And, since when have two shows a night been “customary?” Anyone who’s seen Tom this month can assure you that the photos — as is the wont of these papers — were chosen to look especially unflattering. We Americans always feel somewhat less elegant than the Brits. Must be the accent because if you look at what passes for news there — the norm as opposed to what is the exception here — they should be ashamed.
It’s Not Unusual (to have grey hair at 68): Tom Jones stops dyeing his hair as he announces new tour
By Liz Thomas and Jenny Stocks/Last updated at 12:15 PM on 31st January 2009/The MailOnline
He’s already given up the garish clothes, the medallions, and even the facelifts.
Now Sir Tom Jones is ditching one of the last barriers to him growing old gracefully – the hair dye.
Ahead of his first major international tour for six years, the Welsh singer, who used to sport thick dark locks, has decided to go natural.

No doubt his fans will be somewhat taken aback when the 68-year-old takes to the stage with a shock of grey-white hair.
But Sir Tom, speaking in Los Angeles, admitted it was time for a change, saying: ‘I’ve just stopped dyeing my hair.’
He revealed his tour will begin next month, when he will embark on a series of 15 dates in small clubs across the U.S., a marked change from the packed arenas he’s used to.
Sir Tom is scheduled to tour Britain and Europe in a similar series of intimate gigs this autumn.
He also revealed he will not perform his customary two shows a night. ‘You’re working with tired (vocal) cords on that second show,’ he said.
And, in a admission sure to upset some of his female admirers, Sir Tom said he is no longer as interested when women throw their underwear on stage while he is performing.
‘I don’t capitalise on it as much as I used to,’ he said.
‘I used to pick it up and do shtick with it and all that, which I stopped doing because it was encouraging it.’
The move to stop dyeing his hair comes two years after his plastic surgeon advised him against having any more work done.
Sir Tom is said to have had operations costing £30,000 on his face, including an eyelift, teeth capping and fat removed from under his chin.

Both my husband and myself think the Daily Mail is a poor excuse for a newspaper. The first thing we noticed about this story was the customary 2 shows a night, where on earth did they get that from, it must be 20 years since Tom did 2 shows a night. The funny thing is this article was first posted yesterday with different photos, and all the comments referred to those photos. The new photos were updated lunchtime today, so no comments have actually been made about them. It will be interesting to see if any further comments are posted now the photos have been changed. Please believe me,people in the UK are not all nasty like this, we find these stories just as spiteful and nasty as you do, the only good thing is people here take very little notice of this type of story now as we are all so fed up with them.

Our man must have the energy of 10 Energy Bunnies – unbelievable his tour schedule – all the best for the touring – safe travels always for Sir TOM and his fabulous band
And his “au naturel” look – I think TOM cannot do wrong whatever he does – but please never ever stop singing

Pat: There are people here who regularly read The Star and the Enquirer. And believe them. The NY Post is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. The thing about the UK tabs, though, is that they’ll print what sells. So, clearly, there’s a huge audience for this type of garbage. Of course, we here know it’s not everyone there.

I think before their press opens their mouths’ about greying hair on a celebrity, they should recall that in some opinions, including mine, that the best looking human being that some of us have ever seen…..aged well. It was none other than Cary Grant. I saw him at the Masonic Hall in San Francisco two years before he died. He wore a tuxedo and was elegant beyond words. What a nice human being he was as well.
From the photos I have seen, Tom looks as though he wants to be allowed to be comfy in his own wonderful skin as Mr. Grant finally did. Great looking guys……..you go Mr. Jones !!!

It seems like the Media, whether here at home in the U.S.A, or the U.K., have decided to pick on poor Tom Jones since they ran out of people to pick on. The Media harassed just about everyone on the list you could think of. They really should be ashamed of themselves as professional jouranlists and photographers. Even with grey hair, Tom Jones looks more like himself, now, then he had done so when he dyed his hair dark. Yes, being natural is the better route to go. The question as to why Tom Jones had stopped dying his hair, frankly, is he own business. It could be for personal or medical reasons. None of us know, and should respect his decisions. He is still the same lovable Tom Jones all of us love and whose beauty still continues to glow from the inside out.

It doesn’t matter how the “Gift” is packaged/wrapped. It’s his wonderful Voice that still thrills us all. You go Boyo.

I think he looks great without the hair dye! I will always find him appealing. I absolutely love Tom Jones and his singing and I don’t care what color his hait is~

Don’t you guess by the time Tom quit coloring his hair that he was just simply tired of having to keep up that never ending dye job? IMHO, he looks MUCH better with gray hair. Sure wish he wore a tux every now and then! Cary Grant was handsome, but Tom is better looking than Cary Grant EVER was!!! And, Tom STILL has the best speaking and singing voice that ever existed on this planet. LOL—at myself– Can you tell I love him?

Our societal trend is to fix, repair, accentuate, replace, de-emphasize.darken, lighten, remove, add, straighten, smooth, etc…each part of our bodies starting in our teens. Lookat the 20-something actresses having cosmetic and breast “corrections”.It had gotten totally out of control, and manny times looks absolutely ridiculous. There is a beauty to maturity, and a false mask to an unnatural appearance. Tommy, I loooovvvve your grey hair!

Well I just love you Tom in grey hair, black hair or bald! Tom still has such a carisma about him and that voice still is awesome!
February 2nd, 2009 at 10:48 am
Well I absolutely love the new look! He’s still as handsome as ever – and looks so much better grey…natural and distinguished.

Tom the grey makes you look sexier than ever. Such a sophisticated and natural look.
