Tom Jones “24 Hours:” With This Much Discussion, It’s Gotta Be A Hit!
Saturday, September 27th, 2008A brief interruption in our trip down Memory Lane when Tom was flogging Reloaded:
If you look at our post from September 19, in which we asked What do you think?, you’ll see that it, along with everything else posted on the song elicited almost an avalanche of comment.
If you haven’t had your say or want to say more, you can look again at the lyrics and video and comment below this post. (We closed the comments on the two posts we linked to here because people were missing them.)
Clearly, at least in Tom’s huge fan community, the song and the CD are already a hit because if they weren’t there wouldn’t be this much discussion. And, like it or not, one of the goals of any new project is to get the conversation, the talk, the buzz, going strong. On that basis alone, this new CD is a hit.
We also want to answer another question that popped up: No, the “cover” of the CD pictured elsewhere is not that cover — or so we’ve heard.
Tomorrow, back to the video from 2003 on Good Morning America.

I am so anxious to get the new CD and Give A Little Love is great I find myself singing it all the time,I think the cover for the new CD is on the official site,if you go to the link on the front page of Tom Jones.com and click on the link for KCRW when you get into the page it has a photo of what looks like the CD cover.

Ed: As we noted above, we’re told by an excellent source that is not the cover. But, guess you never know. We hope it’s not, as it’s a kind of hulking figure in the background. They should (hopefully will) have a good portrait of Sir Tom; something lively and full of life.

I refuse to believe that this song is any kind of self-written eulogy. It may be slow. It may be depressing. But it has us talking and like that guy in the Australian blog said, “we don’t know whether it’s complete and utter crap or whether it’s one of the most amazing things we’ve heard in a while.” That’s what make it interesting and keeps us talking. It is nice to have something other than the presidential candidates to debate these days.

I know when Tom finally starts promoting the CD in a huge way we will find out what 24 HOURS is about.

I am new to the sites and the discussions, however, I must comment on 24 Hours. The song has the ability to bring me right into the present moment, and that is all we really have anyway. I believe the video is perfect just the way it is. If this CD is supposed to be about Tom, who am I to criticize? Beside, I like seeing more of the man, Tom Jones, and this is definitely another side. I would not want to see anything more in the background specifically because the focus should be on Tom and not the rest of the world at this point. He has given so much of himself and has brought joy to so many of us over the years, even those like myself who has just recently gotten back into his music. Even I knew of the hits he had. And, yes I really enjoy the uplifting, fun stuff, but life isn’t that way all of the time and this is just one piece of his music and not the entire CD. If he says this is a part of the real Tom then I say, “You go, Tom!” Further, I do not see him as old and tired in this video. What I see is a beautiful man. What I believe makes a man/women beautiful is what they allow you to see through them. IMO the human form is not nearly as beautiful as the magazines show us, but when someone is authentic that is what brings beauty to the form. I see Tom as a full, vivacious, robust man who has lived a full life, and unfortunately darkness plays a part in all of our lives to some degree. What I see in this video is Tom Jones, extremely simple, deep, and amazingly beautiful.
