In Memorium: Paul Newman (Shown Here With Tom Jones) And, Then, “The New Man In Paul Newman’s Bed”

There is little we could even imagine saying that would do justice to the legend who was Paul Newman. Both of us numbered him among our favorites and — for his contributions to film and, perhaps more important, his contributions to making this world a better place — he will be deeply missed.

Paul Newman shown with Tom in these 1981 photos at (obviously) Caesars Palace. There was a Grand Prix race in held in Caesars parking lot. Newman raced; Jones was grand marshal of the parade. Looking at the development that is Caesars Palace (and the Las Vegas Strip) today, it’s very hard to imagine that much space, isn’t it.

This photo (left), from the same time in Las Vegas, was clearly taken after one of Tom’s shows. Love the way they’re comparing their chest hair. Great senses of humor.

We can only be grateful we were watching films and attending plays when Paul Newman was acting in them. If you don’t know his work, try to rent it and watch.

All we can say is Paul Newman never really had a failure to communicate. Finally — and, please, forgive the corn — “Goodnight, Sweet Prince. May flights of angels sing you to your rest.”

Forgot to include the photo above right in our original post. It shows Tom as “The New Man In Newman’s Bed,” taken as a PR stunt when Tom rented Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward’s home in LA on one of his first extended stays in the USA.

Thanks, UKFan, for the pictures with Tom and Paul Newman.

Wow, what amazing photos, I had no idea. I remember being about 11 and watching Cool Hand Luke and thinking, “Wow, that is a beautiful man.” I recently watched Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. What a wonderful film — and the fact that Paul Newman, Katharine Ross and Robert Redford were so incredibly lovely…. again, wow!, is all I can say.

What a wonderful life lived, Godspeed Paul Newman.

I was not even old enough to be in school yet. But I can remember that far back, and I would see Paul Newman on TV and then look to my father and say “Dad, you look just like Paul Newman.” I continued to say that to my dad through out the years. It always made Daddy smile. I loved my dad, and I loved Paul Newman. And now they’re probably shaking hands. . .

Paul Newman leaves a legacy of wonderful films, outstanding charitable work and – from what I have read – was also a thoroughly decent man of great humility and integrity: a true gent. He was one of a kind and will be sorely missed. I was upset when I heard the news; it’s almost like the end of an era.

Of course, the news sites are awash with Paul Newman quotes and he comes across as extremely gracious and self-effacing. He was put on Richard Nixon’s ‘enemies’ list and described it as “the highest single honour I’ve ever received.” Of how he would like to be remembered, he said this:

“I’d like to be remembered as a guy who tried – tried to be part of his times, tried to help people communicate with one another, tried to find some decency in his own life, tried to extend himself as a human being. Someone who isn’t complacent, who doesn’t cop out.” I think he succeeded.

He went on to say: “I picture my epitaph: ‘Here lies Paul Newman who died a failure because his eyes turned brown.’ “

What a guy. May he rest in peace.

Paul Newman was one of the last of a dying breed of good people. We still have some left, just have to find them. Thank God, one of them we don’t have to search for too far because he’s right here with us, of course, he’s our beloved Tom Jones. Good health to you always, dear Tom.

Our deepest sympathy to the family of Paul Newman. May Paul Newman be in Heaven today, bringing forth smiles to everyone up there.

I never knew that was Paul Newman’s house or bed; very interesting as I didn’t realize he and Paul had some background together.

Yes, he was a good man, an exciting actor, a humanitarian…the world was a better place for his being in it, and we will surely miss him.

Paul Newman’s death touched my deeply – A wonderful man, gentleman, actor – his striking blue eyes were only out shined by his beautiful personality.

Ladies – thank you for the photos with Paul and TOM in VEGAS – I have never seen them before – the “chest hair comparing” pic is great :) and one of my olde time favorite pic is TOM in Newman’s bed ;)

I also would like to praise Paul’s delicious “Newman’s Own” products – my favorites are his pasta sauces and California wines – 100% of profit goes to charity – Thank you Paul you were one of a kind – rest in peace or better keep on racing wherever you are…..

Paul Newman was one of my very favorite actors.
I wish him all the best in his new life.
