Here’s where you’ll find TJ photos and stories that don’t fit into any other categories. It is, as its name says, just for fans — and, hopefully, for fun.

1st: A Reminder; Then, Rumor Or Reality: A New Tom Jones Video? Next, A Laugh After Two Serious Posts

Our Friday and Saturday posts dealt with important, weighty topics, so we’re happy to change the tone today. But, first, a reminder: Today is the last day to get your photos in for the 2009 TJI.com Fan Calendar. Send all 300 dpi photos, with explanation of who took them and where — or any questions you may have — to href="http://tomjonesintl.com/wp-admin/post.php#" mce_href="http://tomjonesintl.com/wp-admin/post.php#">tji.com. Thanks! Now, on to today’s post:

First, the rumor: Tom is making (or has made) a video to go with the single from his new CD, Gemini. We’ve heard he stayed in the UK after that wedding last weekend to make it or, perhaps, that it was done in LA. (Remember, the Stoned In Love video was done in the desert in the US?) Whatever, we’re eager to see it. Of course, until you read about it on his official site, it’s merely unconfirmed rumor.

Next, the laugh (and, at the same time, something terrific): Check out this video (© by BBC) from the BBC show Last Choir Standing (you know we cannot make this stuff up) of Only Men Aloud doing a TJ medley. They’ve definitely got our vote — not only for their choice of material, but we love those narrow 60s ties — and if you can vote in the UK, please do. (Thanks, AF, for the link.)

As Pat and Paula pointed out in the comments below, these guys won the competition. For more info on them, click on the BBC’s Last Choir Standing site and/or on their official site.

Ellen they won and they are Welsh

  2. Paula Says:

Yes, indeed they did: they were the Last Choir Standing! And not only Welsh…but from Cardiff…there’s lovely.

  3. Moderator Says:

So, Pat and Paula, do you think it’s true that the Welsh, as a people, have a gift for song? And, to Only Men Aloud, llongyfarchiadau!!

  4. Dorothy Jean C. Says:

Watched this several times. Really enjoyed. So glad they won. Thanks for presenting it.

  5. pat lowndes Says:

It does seem as if there is something in the air in Wales that makes singers. It is known as “The Land of Song.” When they won they sang All By Myself as an encore. It was very good. .

  6. TJFriend Says:

AH, BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!! Cheers to the young lads who have preserved Tom Jones’ songs to the energy and volume level we all know those songs to be. If the young Welsh group ever put out a CD, you would buy it. It would be great if Tom Jones would have them as his guest for one of his shows to serve as his backup singers. How amazing would that be?!!! Tom Jones’ voice, alone, would thunder over all of their voices put together. Hope they come here to America. This group, the Only Men Aloud choir, continues to sing like this, they will certainly be the last left standing, but the first in a very long time, to be the next generation of singers of this century to carry on the strength in the art and musicality the world has not heard since Tom Jones exploded into our lives back in the 60′s. A long time in the making, surely, but definitely worth the wait! Congratulations, Gentlemen, and to Tom Jones, their inspiartion!

  7. pat lowndes Says:

I forgot to say they are going to sing for the Queen at the royal variety show .

  8. Johan Says:

Never eager to make comments, but this was great. Good arrangement and performance. Like TJFriends said, this would do great as a promotional stunt with Tom and this choir singing together.

  9. Gill Says:

I watched these boys throughout the series and hoped they would win because they had may vote from the start. I wondered as the weeks went on if they would sing one of Tom’s songs and I’m so glad they did. Hope Tom got to see the lads. I’m sure he would approve. These boys are from Cardiff only 12 miles from Tom’s hometown so, yes, Wales is the land of song and what better voice than our very own TOM!

  10. Darla Says:

While not one to enjoy Tom’s songs by anyone other than “Himself,” I loved these guys. I would enjoy seeing them in concert. They would be great in a promotional stunt. I can see these guys singing and suddenly you hear this one voice, booming and beautiful. They part and out walks Tom, glorious and commanding as always. The thought makes my knees weak.

  11. pat lowndes Says:

mmmmm I like the sound of that Darla.

  12. Marisa Says:

Let’s try to forget the Stoned in Love video…it was horrible, truly the worst music video EVER! Not one shot of gorgeous Tom singing? There is no excuse for that. Bad rubber masks of him? One cameo of him in sun glasses? What were they thinking? YIKES!
