Before We Ring In The New, An Oldie To Make You Smile
Sunday, December 30th, 2007We came across this and really had to laugh….It’s a clip of Tom and John Farnham doing My Yiddishe Momma from the November 20, 1999 episode of the Australian TV show Hey, Hey, It’s Saturday, which ran for 27 years, from 1971 to 1999 (with a brief time-out in 1978). We love the way they relate to each other. Two real pros having a ball. We have to note that the reference we found gave that 1999 date, but it looks to be from several years earlier. We’ll keep researching.

In 2005 John and Tom did a concert tour through Australia. The CD and DVD from that tour both hit #1 (both platinum status). They intended to tour during Hey Hey It’s Saturday.

Does anyone know where we can find more of this episode?

Dre: When the DVD became #1 in Australia, we read that to accomplish this feat it had sold 15,000 copies — a mere drop in the bucket compared to what a DVD must sell to become #1 in so many other places.

The clip definitely looks like it’s from 1991 or 1992 to me. Right around the Carrying a Torch days, judging from the way Tom looks with the hair not as colored as much around that time.

I’m pretty sure this was 1990: I was in Sydney then and saw this show along with several others that he appeared on at the time. They’re all on tape. Tom was touring Australia and New Zealand and I saw him in concert at Sydney Entertainment Centre.

No matter who Tom sings with, he always makes them feel his equal. He is SO classy and fun!
