Tom's done a few political things here and there. He took part in The Simple Truth concert in London(1991 I think) in aid of Kurdish refugees. I also remember him doing an Amnesty International tv show as well as one of their big theatre gigs. In the seventies I believe he took a stand against apartheid in South Africa by saying that the shows he was doing there should have integrated audiences (I think a compromise was agreed). All good.

Patsy Cline and Jim Reeves doing their version.

Quite different, imagine Ernest Tubb's was even a more twangy version.

Note: And if Tom had kept up those hip movements for many more years, he would be requiring hip replacements by now. Just joking...he still has good moves.......

OK, Marian, did some research. Jim Reeves and Patsy Cline did a slower duet on this and so did Mel Tillis and Ernest Tubb(!). Tom's is more upbeat but, on the other hand, after listening, one is more inclined to see that he's never lonely again.

Did the other artists who recorded this song have a much different interpretation? Tom seemed to make a fun song out of it, and I don't recall if others sang it as more of a sad country song??
