First Christmas DVD Trailer (It Will Probably Be Changed)

Brightcove, the media publishers who work with Time Life, has posted the first TV commercial for the Christmas DVD.

The cover art is wrong (see post below) but it conveys a good idea of the content.

These are, obviously, two screen shots from the project. We love the “Christmas cheer” expression on Tom’s face. (OK, the words and picture don’t match, but we think it’s kind of funny.)dvd shot 2dvd shot 1

Another “Delilah” Oddity

Even though we hope you’ll answer our question of the month (below) we wanted to add to our growing list of Delilah oddities with this.

It’s the Red Army Choir and the Leningrad Cowboys performing the song.(We found out that after the Soviet Union disbanded, their official choir remained to perform.)

Enjoy! And please do answer the question of the month.

Thanks, Paula.

Sorry We’re Late, But Here’s Our September Question of the Month

We’ve all been busy, so we do apologize for our tardiness in posting this question which, in truth, was prepared over one month ago.

westbury 5-22-81The Question of the Month for September is:

What is your favorite quote from Tom Jones?

Over the years we’ve heard Tom talk about living in “Dean Martin’s house.” We’ve heard him welcome the “ladies. And thank you gentlemen for bringing them here.” “The memory is the second thing to go. I can’t remember the first.”

Yes, there are lots and lots of quotes he’s said onstage. But, now, we’re asking for other quotes that you may have read or heard in interviews.

Below are a few of our favorites. We’d like you to add yours. And the more obscure, the better.

“As for the music business itself, the key things have not changed that much. It operates like any business and money still keeps things moving.”

“I have had some pretty wild nights! I think the media keeps a very close eye on what people are up to these days. I was out with George Clooney a few nights ago and we had a great time.”

“I like to drink to suit my location.”

“I love listening to new stuff. At home in LA I always have the radio on to hear what is happening.”

Tom Jones + Luciano Pavarotti = One Amazing “Delilah”

modena 2001When Luciano Pavarotti died Wednesday, the music world suffered a great loss. A towering figure (literally and figuratively) Pavarotti simply defined opera to many people. He was also a great humanitarian.

On May 29, 2001, Tom appeared at Pavarotti’s annual charity concert in his hometown of Modena, Italy. The beneficiaries that year were Afghani refugees. Also on that bill were George Benson, Celia Cruz, Anastacia and Barry White. Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas also made appearances.

Watch Tom’s face in this video clip of him with Pavarotti singing Delilah. It, like this photo, isn’t great quality, but you get the point.

And, again, you can revisit the CNN interview with Tom when the reporter asks about a Pavarotti duet on Sexbomb.

One other youtube gem worth noting is from the 2002 Modena benefit. Here is the Pavarotti-James Brown duet of It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World.

“This Is Tom Jones Christmas” DVD News!

The DVD, from Time Life will carry a street price of $14.99. It’s one disc, more than one hour of playing time, and features a wide variety of entertainment, including Ella Fitzgerald, Rudolf Nureyev, Judy Collins and The Treorchy Male Choir as background when Tom goes home and reads Dylan Thomas’ A Child’s Christmas In Wales (which, alone, would be worth the price). There’s also that beloved Christmas standard, Tutti Fruitti.

Here are previews of the cover art and the list of performance highlights:

Maybe Charlotte Church Should Give Up?

Moderators’ Comment: Isn’t it wonderful to have so much wisdom at the age of 21 that you are writing your second autobiography?

Charlotte dishes dirt in second book

from icWales,Sep 6 2007

by Claire Hill, Western Mail

CHARLOTTE CHURCH has said Welsh singing legend Tom Jones should retire as his voice is “going now”.

The heavily pregnant star made the comments in her second autobiography Keep Smiling, which is released today.

On Tony Bennett and Tom Jones she suggested it was time for the pair to give up and enjoy their retirement.

She wrote, “I think of him [Tony Bennett] in the same way as I do Tom Jones – both lovely men and huge musical icons, but their voices are going now, their vibrato slowing with age, and I think they should go and live a little, spend their money and enjoy their kids and grandkids. It’s time to give up. Come on, guys.”

Rumor Or Reality? “This Is Tom Jones Christmas” DVD? Looks Like It.

It’s been noted on the tomjones.com forum and in emails to us that Amazon.com has posted news of a new This Is Tom Jones Christmas DVD.

Anyway, information is very scant at this point, but we’re told by a very good source that it’s another Time Life product that, as of now, is set to be released October 30.

We must repeat our usual warning: This hasn’t been officially announced by tomjones.com so, until it is, caveat emptor.

We’ll keep you posted.

Happy Labor — Or, Labour — Day!

delilah 3

This Monday is Labor Day in the US; Labour Day in Canada. (We checked and it isn’t a holiday anywhere else that we could find.) The day marks the official — if not actual — end of summer.

In less than three weeks Tom will begin his fall-winter tour when he comes back to the MGM and, hopefully, for those of you not in Las Vegas, or California or Atlantic City, more dates will be filled in before the new year.

Meanwhile, have a terrific holiday and, to those who only have a regular weekend, we hope that’s good, too.

This photo of Tom is from his December 17, 1976 appearance on Midnight Special. There might be a whole page of these in our calendar, so watch for it!
