Maybe Charlotte Church Should Give Up?
Thursday, September 6th, 2007Moderators’ Comment: Isn’t it wonderful to have so much wisdom at the age of 21 that you are writing your second autobiography?
Charlotte dishes dirt in second book

CHARLOTTE CHURCH has said Welsh singing legend Tom Jones should retire as his voice is “going now”.
The heavily pregnant star made the comments in her second autobiography Keep Smiling, which is released today.
On Tony Bennett and Tom Jones she suggested it was time for the pair to give up and enjoy their retirement.
She wrote, “I think of him [Tony Bennett] in the same way as I do Tom Jones – both lovely men and huge musical icons, but their voices are going now, their vibrato slowing with age, and I think they should go and live a little, spend their money and enjoy their kids and grandkids. It’s time to give up. Come on, guys.”

I don’t think we should even dignify this with a response, it’s so laughable.

I say we give her 50 years, or so, and see if she feels the same way about her voice/career. Her young age says it all!

You know I got one of her CD’s when she first came out because of all the hoopla about her. I gave it away because I thought her voice was thin and weak. I guess think I will just keep on listening to someone who really has a voice even if he is not in his 20′s.

Charlotte WHO? this is what will we be saying in 5 years and Tom will still be going as strong as ever. Some artists who have a career going nowhere can only exist by bashing others.
September 6th, 2007 at 10:43 am
I agree with Ed…Charlotte WHO? Its like Pavarotti being critiqued by Britney Spears…laughable.

I would ask Ms Church, who is better than Sir Tom! the new male singers that are out there now, that are supposetly on the top of the charts have very adolesent sounding voices. For the most part these people have no vocal ability. They either sound like they are whining, mumbling, or screaming (usually off key). Sir Tom has no vocal problems, his voice seems to me to be more powerful then ever. Does anyone out there beleive that Ms Church could stand next to Sir Tom on stage for a two hour show and match his ability…I don’t think so.

She is a jerk.

I agree with all… Miss Church’s comments are crass and are the statements of a youngling. Tony Bennett and TJ have FORGOTTEN things vocally that Charolette has yet to learn or acknowledge! I think Tom knows exactly where his voice stands and will give it up when he feels he can no longer perform to his standard. Incidentally, I don’t believe Miss Church or the young male performers who are “current” today tour as many days a year as Tom or Tony Bennett. Hmmm… maybe it has something to do with POPULARITY? TALENT? EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMANCE SKILLS? Though we all have agreed marketing and IMAGE needs improvement. As well as a NEW set list and WARDROBE…
Additionally, I’m sadden to hear that Luciano Pavarotti has passed away from pancreatic cancer. His Voice and Presense will be missed.

HOW MANY PAGES THIS autobiography GOT??? 5?
Cant say nothing, bla bla what a stupid comment…
Another great autobiography, what is just hmm.. TRASH!

Sweet Ms. Church with the “angelic voice” should do a reality check. Haven’t seen too much of her touring lately. I am very much surprised at her comments and somewhat disappointed in her, but LOVE THAT TJ !!!!!

“Charlotte was 15 when she wrote her first autobiography Voice of an Angel: My Life (So Far). It was rated by People Magazine as one of 2001’s worst, so the 21-year-old will hope her musings six years on will be better received.”
OH YEAH, GOOD LUCK WITH THE NEW AUTOBIOGRAPHY!…. just

During the last couple of years I heard her say that she’d like to do a duet with Tom as it would be “cool”.
September 6th, 2007 at 3:45 pm
It was many years ago that TJ said he would sing until he was 97 if his voice held up and people still wanted to hear him. Well, Sir Tom? Thank God we have another 30 years ahead of us to enjoy your powerful voice and master showmanship. You have to admire the man for truly loving what he does for a living.

What nerve to say such a thing. You say the name “Tom Jones” and everyone knows who he is and most people would say he is a legend. You say “Charlotte Church,” you get “who?” or, maybe, “a singer.” Now she’ll be known as B_ _ _ _h . Give her 20 years and she’ll be known as a person who disses legends. What a classy young lady. NOT! Good luck on the worst 2007 list again, Charlotte

don’t be a ‘HATER,’ Charlotte. You will never reach the legend status of Tom Jones.

I have read articles, where Tom Jones has said many nice things about Charlotte Church. She should be ashamed, and needs a lesson in respect. However, I will consider the source because of an inside tidbit of info I have on Miss Church that I will share. I live near an area where there is big name entertainment and a large very exclusive hotel and spa. Miss Church was billed as part of a Christmas show and stayed in this particular hotel. Friend of mine works there and reported that she made a scene by throwing a hissy fit because the hotel would not provide compimentary spa services for her. This is a girl that thinks she is one special primadonna. Tom Jones is a bigger name than Charlotte could ever dream of being, and I have heard only of how pleasant he is to deal with professionally and otherwise.

Ms. Church represents tacky at its worst. I am sure that TJ and Tony Bennett had a good chuckle with regard to her “wisdom”. Geez……….
September 7th, 2007 at 10:51 am
Ah, the folly of youth combined with the discomfort and lack of sleep in the third trimester…
Indeed, Ms. Church is correct in that Tom’s voice is “going”…it keeps going, and going, and going…just like the Energizer Bunny ; )))
TOM JONES ROCKS MY WORLD!

Isn’t it amazing that when someone says anything derogatory about our Tom, we all jump on that person like “bees on honey”. We sure know how to “protect” our man, don’t we ????
September 7th, 2007 at 12:09 pm
this is all for publicity reasons, getting noticed.
They know if you do a statement like this about two world famous singers you’ll get publicity.
I’m european, but i think “it is cheap” to do such a thing. Nuff said.
September 7th, 2007 at 12:11 pm
I should have said “REAL FAMOUS” singers.
September 7th, 2007 at 12:35 pm
Dre – I agree it’s all publicity to sell her 2. autobiography – And I think Charlotte what’s her name? should live her life first before she writes about it!
September 7th, 2007 at 12:53 pm
I love what Carol says about protecting our man. This girl needs a kick in the _ _ _ !
September 7th, 2007 at 3:34 pm
I wouldn’t go across the street to see her. I travel each year to see “Tom Jones”. He is the best.

Poor Charlotte. It is obvious that she has a severe case of writers block, and is grasping for things to write about. I guess negitive attention is better than no attention at all!!!! Perhaps miss Charlotte should take some of her own advice and hang up her pen.Oh and Charlote though i am not a writer. I am told that a writer should do her reserch before hand. It is important to get the facts strait. This time you couldn’t be farther off the mark!!!!
