Sir Tom In the News, What's New, Pussycat?
Here’s our news page. This is the place for articles and, we pledge, we’ll try not to post the stupid stuff we all run across once in awhile.
Our Comment On This Story: It’s Mean. We Like Gray. And Tony Bennett.
Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006
This is more sludge from the British tabloid The Daily Mail in which they recycle old quotes and try to make something of nothing. Why reprint it? Because it gives us two opportunities:
First, the opportunity to say we like Tom looking mature with silver on the edges. We find that way preferable to the other photo in the article from the late 90s (run much smaller; shown here on the right).
Second, the opportunity to ask: did you see Tony Bennett’s special on NBC last night? Here’s a man who is — in a word — elegant and all — in another word — class. And Bennett, at 80, doesn’t try to look any younger. He looks tan and fit and fabulous. And there’s nothing wrong with that. People love his music and he’s got a special status we’d love to see Tom share. To fans, Tom’s looks are a bonus. It’s the voice, inn’t it? We think in their photo Tom looks just fine. Relaxed. And we love that nice half-smile. And the surgeon they quote says Tom has lines from being expressive and laughing. Since when is that bad? We further thnk they are idjits. (And we probablly overreacted. Sorry.) You can respond to this trash here. Don’t forget to point out that, on the right side of the webpage, next to the article, they say Tom is 70. Just another reason why credibibility isn’t their long suit.
We also must note that Tom gets heaps more respect from the US press than he seems to at home. And it must be terrible to nicely stop so someone can take your photo, to look at the camera and smile and to have that photo used in this way.
Tom Jones looking his age at last
by CLEMMIE MOODIE Last updated at 22:42pm on 22nd November 2006
As his legion of knicker-wielding female fans will testify, Sir Tom Jones, nearing his 70th birthday, remains the ultimate pensioner pin-up.
But with heavily wrinkled eyes and deep facial crevices, it seems that 40 years of plastic surgery have taken their toll on the Welsh star.
Indeed, as he took an afternoon stroll through the streets of Beverly Hills, near his Californian home, the Sex Bomb singer looked every one of his 66 years.
Wearing a casual black top and trousers and carrying a snazzy leather “man-bag,” Sir Tom’s greying goatee beard and sideburns did little to help matters.
His ageing appearance comes just seven months after he admitted that, following years of cosmetic surgery, he has been warned that his face will collapse if has any more work done.
And last night top plastic surgeon Alex Karidis said: “Years of sun damage from the harsh Californian sun has not done Tom’s Welsh skin much good.
“He also has very prominent dynamic lines caused from where the muscles in the face contract and tighten, as well as very pronounced laughter lines. A career of smiling and expression have taken their toll.
“No amount of surgery could eradicate these lines and at his age, the last thing I would recommend is more surgery. A spot of Botox, to relax these lines, is the only thing that might help reduce the wrinkling.
“Tom has clearly had eyelift surgery but it looks as though he had too much skin removed during the procedure, causing the white under his pupils to touch the lower eyelid margin. This has not been the case in earlier years.”
As well as a reported nose job – rhinoplasty – an eyelift, face-lift, teeth capping and fat removed from his chin, the singer has also had a complicated scalp reduction procedure to push back the tide of baldness.
Since his first operation, to reduce the width of his nose, he is estimated to have spent around £30,000 on cosmetic surgery.
Sir Tom, who is worth over £50 million, recently admitted that he had been advised by his Beverly Hills plastic surgeon not to have any further operations.
“I went to see a plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills and he said: ‘You’ve got to be careful with your lower eyes,” the singer revealed.
“He advised me against having anything else done.
“He told me: ‘Your eyes will be bloody popping.’”
He said I should try to look as natural as I can.”
But in the same interview, in which he confessed to having had “some nips and tucks,” he did not rule out the possibility of future surgery.

For God’s sake give the man a break! We are all going in the same direction as far as Father Time is concerned. Tom looks great, the grey is classy and I think everyone would agree time has been good to him. I’d never kick him out of bed! Love the pic.

Tom Jones looks fabulous! That twinkle in his eye is priceless. Can you imagine what he would have looked like after 40+ years in a Welsh mine?!
He looks great, I love the touch of silver in his hair.

We’re with you all. Tom looks great in that new photo. Hope that came through loud and clear in what we wrote.
For the record, we will always delete comments that cross the line into rudeness. When we do, we write privately to the individual poster whose comment is being deleted and explain why. The fact is, we don’t care at all if you disagree with us just, please, don’t be nasty when you do.
Also, before we launched the site we talked about the kind of site we wanted and we made a conscious decision not to dumb-down the content. Because of that, we’d hope readers will carefully read what we write. We are all devoted fans who only wish Tom Jones the best the world has to offer.
Happy Thanksgiving and if you’re not in the US, happy Thursday.

I’m with LINDA, what is the matter with aging for goodness sake?! I love it that he got that gorgeous face from laughing and expressing himself, he has a great life and it shows!
November 23rd, 2006 at 10:31 am
I just love his grey hair and/or his “salt & pepper” look! He just looks more sexy that way. This is a great photo. I also love his “crevices” or “lines” in his face, giving him a rugged, manly look. And I’m glad he’s laughed and smiled enough in his life to give him those lines! We should all be that lucky.

I love the way he looks now as compared to 10 yrs. ago. The beard, the wrinkles, the twinkling eyes!! Wouldn’t mind a little bit more of the grey showing. All shows he’s had a happy & interesting life, and still as talented as ever. Long live Sir Tom!!!
November 23rd, 2006 at 9:01 pm
I am loving this photo. I do hope Tom chooses to keep some of the silver in his hair when we see him in Las Vegas next month. It’s lovely!!!
November 23rd, 2006 at 9:49 pm
I like the photo of Tom. Thank you. Cindy
November 24th, 2006 at 9:15 am
I like the “silver” and personally find it very SEXY!! I think it’s time for Tom to KEEP some silver in his hair and beard!! Looks very saucy & sexy indeed!!! The laugh lines and “crinkles” only add to his sexiness!! Who wants some plastic, botoxed boy toy?? I want a REAL man — who has LIVED and ENJOYED life and doesn’t mind showing it — like TOM JONES !!!

It never ceases to amaze me how the media, US & UK alike, like to fixate on Tom’s stage presence and looks and neglect the fact that the man has been selling out crowds for 40 years because his voice is second to none. Listen to Tom singing It’s Not Unusual in 1964 and listen to him in 2006…. gosh darn it… it is hard to tell which is which. How many singers can keep the same quality of voice over the course of four decades? Does that fact get any mention? And while I love Tony, Tom has not decided to reinvent the wheel, but is still wading into uncharted musical waters continually testing his ability to entertain generations… again… where is the media on that story? Just so frustrating! Well, now that I ranted, I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

Well, in our youth-obsessed society, which ironically in NA is proportionally older than any other time in recorded history with the baby boomers all firmly entrenched in their fifties & sixties, it’s nice to see an age-appropriate face.
Kenny Rogers is 68. Check out this photo. He does NOT look good by any standard. They’d be lucky to find a Kenny Rogers lookalike these days, and that’s saying something! I haven’t seen so much stretched and pulled since granny caught her boob in the wringer! I like Tom just the way he is, thank you very much ; )))
November 25th, 2006 at 7:45 am
Fay, I’m with you. Kenny Rogers doesn’t even look like himself anymore!! He could be anyone! He looks very odd… kind of Michael Jackson/Joan Rivers-looking. PLEASE PLEASE, Tom, stay just the way you are. We love you looking like a REAL person with wrinkles and gray hair (like a lot of us) — you are still the SEXIEST MAN ALIVE!!!!
November 25th, 2006 at 10:35 am
Fay, is Granny okay now? How’s the wringer?
November 25th, 2006 at 11:02 am
I agree with Joe completely. I prefer the Tom today from the younger Tom. Unlike Elvis, Tom just gets better and better with age!
November 25th, 2006 at 3:05 pm
The type people who write these reviews are the ones who put the likes of Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, etc., etc. at the top of the pop charts. Older singers might as well be whiling their time away in a retirement home for all the respect they get.
I was kept totally entertained with Tony Bennett’s classy production, only to then turn on the AMA on another channel, and what a bunch of bleeping, no talent artists were featured on there. And, let me see, I doubt there was anyone over 40 on that show.

hello everyone! Tonights the NIGHT! I’ll be in Atlantic City to check out whether Tom has listened to his fans and kept the silver touches that we all agree are charming. sexy and age appropriate. He just looked so wonderful in that pic!
November 26th, 2006 at 4:31 am
Sorry to disappoint but, as Scoop emailed us, “…no, Tom’s hair is not silver. It’s that other color.” But Scoop did go on to say that the show was great and “the faithful approve of the set changes. Tom reacted by talking more between songs.” Can’t wait to hear more from those who were there.

I don’t care what other people say but Tom looks great! He is the sexiest and most gorgeous man in the world and I’m really thankful that I could kiss him last month ago in Nottingham…He looked wonderful as always!
November 26th, 2006 at 12:25 pm
Give the man a break. Some man wish they would look like Tom at that age. He looks fine. Even better — he is gorgeous. And if his hair turns grey he would be “sophisticated” too! He is the nicest man, sexy, funny, polite, a real gentleman and, above all, he is the greatest singer of all time! And if he gets all wrinkled, nothing will ever change that. I think he is in the best stage of his life now.
From a Dutch fan.

Hi Everyone. Well I was in Atlantic City Friday and Saturday nights. The man is AMAZING. His new setlist is wonderful. I hadn’t seen him since October when he was still with the old setlist. Well Friday night as he was singing, our whole table looked at one another and sais “What is he singing?” Well, by Saturday night, that feeling had past and we can’t even remember the old set – IT WAS WONDERFUL111111. His voice was robost, but sensual, as always, and he looked fantastic. The setlist was very well thought out, I think, because he shows his entire range and what he can do with that voice. The joint was jumping and he even signed some old album covers and kissed a woman who gave him flowers. He seemed so relaxed and pleased that we enjoyed the new show and him. As always, his band and the singers are fantastic. I had an opportunity to talk to Don after the show and told him to tell Tom he is like fine wine – he only gets better with age. The only thing I can tell people who smerk and frown when I tell them I am going to see Tom for the 90th time is that they have no idea what that MAN can do to you for 1 1/2 hours. I don’t have to explain any of this to all you, because we’re all in the same boat – TOM’S BOAT. I’ll be going to see him in Las Vegas in Jan. and can’t wait. P.S. Don’t really care about any of his plastic surgery or whether he gets more – he’s still a handsome creature and we love him. Enjoy!

MHARDING: Granny’s fine, thanks for asking. Only problem is she went from a 34B to a 42 Long. ; )))
CAROL: Thanks for the review from Atlantic City, I can’t wait to see him in December!!!
November 27th, 2006 at 7:39 am
Carol, thanks for the great review! I’ve been waiting all weekend to hear one. Can’t wait to hear the new songs. I loved your comment about being in the same boat – Tom’s Boat. I’m there!
I see him next on December 9th. Can’t wait….

I have indeed seen Tom up close and personal. I am not insinuating that I know everything…but I do, in my heart of hearts, believe IF Tom has had any cosmetic surgery done it has been minimal. I think it is ridiculous to think he has had a ton done, so much that his face would collapse from another. Has anyone taken a look at th quality of surgery performed nowadays? A man such as Tom wouldn’t go to someone who would leave him with those “wisdom lines.” For god’s sake look at his eyes…doesn’t look like they have been done.

Sometimes I wonder what the media are thinking. Ever wodered how old theymay be? Sour grapes comes to mind When When I go to see Tom I don’t care if he has a Zimmer frame (don’t know if you call it the same in the USA) a long as his wonderful voice and lungs are going strong. Of course the rest of Sir Tom is pretty good too. Message to the media: Leave our Tom alone.
Moderator’s Note: A “Zimmer frame” is what we in the US call a “walker.”

There was an article just after Tom was knighted when he told the reporter “If I didn’t dye my hair I would look like Father Christmas.” So what is wrong with Father Christmas? He brings happiness and good cheer. I know who that reminds me of!!!!!

Although I’m new to the site and playing catch-up on my reading, I had to comment on this picture. I have always enjoyed “older” men. In my 20′s I was dating guys 15 years older than me. I love the older Tom. I like the older Tom better than the younger Tom. Tom will always be sexy to me. No picture can change that image in my mind. No newspaper or book can be written to change my mind about how I feel about him. He is “Tom Jones.” Gosh, wish he read this web site.

I agree. I like the grey hair at the edges and through his goatee. These people are just plain mean!!!! I agree that Tony Bennett also looks amazing at 80. Still sounds great too. Tom is a hard working man. Still with a very full concert sheduele. He looks amazing. Sounds amazing, and as it was pointed out he was kind enough to stop for the photo and smile. I have mentioned this before , i was looking right into those beautiful eyes, and that handsome face. When he was kind enough to take a few minutes for me in Vegas on Aug.12/ 2007. May i mention that Tom was recovering from a throat infection and was still not 100%. Although you would have never known it. Everytime i close my eyes i see that handsome face and those beautiful eyes. I will carry that with me always. Not to mention, being under the weather i am sure that he would have much rather been resting than chatting wit ha fan. But he did. He was so very kind. I pitty people that can find nothing nice to write about a legand like Sir Tom.
